Barbershop...Workshop
Ollie Vincent, professional tenor, along with Emily Barden, Leader of Singing for West Sussex Music visited Imberhorne on 17th January to run a 'cool' and extremely ’groovy’ workshop with our ‘Barbershop' boys singing ensemble.
Using beatboxing, loop stations, body percussion and of course our students’ voices, the creative session was an introduction into exploring the process of layering and arranging contemporary music in an acapella style. Our Year 10 and 11 boys formed a singing group last year and appeared at various concerts. They are now training hard for the various music events we have scheduled in the calendar.
The workshop gave the boys the opportunity to try out new technology, have a go at composing some original music and experience singing together alongside professional vocal artists. Ollie and Emily were engaging and vibrant. They complimented our boys by inviting them to perform in West Sussex schools this year, in an attempt to entice more male students into developing a passion for singing. All part of a new West Sussex Music boys singing programme.
