A Golden Key Can Open Any Door
We have been waiting excitedly, for some time now, to share some wonderful news from our exchange programme with Tanzania. The new orphanage building has finally been finished and officially handed over! This is the result of so much hard work and some incredibly dedicated fundraising too. Every time a member of our community turned up to a quiz fundraiser, bought a cupof tea at an event or played the tombola at I-Fest - they contributed to this monumental achievement.
In 2018, when our Year 13 exchange group visited Tanzania, it was apparent the orphanage in Kisarawe desperately needed a new building to house their female residents. The old one was literally falling down. In November of 2020, we were finally able to instruct our link at the Minaki School to go ahead with the build, as Imberhorne had finally raised enough funds to pay for the new building.
It has taken 2 years, 3 builders and endless emails, but we have finally got there, keys have been handed over and the children can move in. Mrs Evans, Tanzanian Exchange Coordinator since 2017 said, "I am so proud of Imberhorne and our wider community. After my visit in 2018, I made it my mission for our exchange programme to achieve this. If I am honest, there are times I wasn’t sure if we would achieve it, but the keys have now proved it has happened!"
What an amazing community we have.
